Reston, Va., [January 7, 2009] Applied Knowledge Group, Inc. (AKG) is offering a new workshop that provides Microsoft SharePoint 2007 users instruction in the use of SharePoint My Sites functionality. This one day hands-on workshop provides instruction as well as discussion of the concepts around effectively building and using My Sites. The workshop also includes instruction on customizing a My Site including creating lists, adding web parts, and customizing libraries for use in the My Site.
“We are very pleased to offer this workshop.” said Pamela Harris-Vet, AKG’s Director of Professional Services. “Social networking in the workplace is a growing area, but organizations are struggling with how to use the tools effectively. For SharePoint users, the My Sites feature offers a way to incorporate these benefits.” A federal government attendee at a recent My Sites workshop said “I didn’t realize how much there was to this. I learned so much and have a much better perspective on using My Sites effectively.”
A social networking feature of SharePoint, My Sites provide individualized work sites that users can customize to their own specific work needs. In addition, My Sites also offer the ability to profile employees’ skills and interests, so others in the organization can easily search to learn who might be suited for a project. As a social networking tool, My Sites allow members of an organization to learn about colleagues, regardless of their location. This facilitates creation of teams by allowing co-workers to get to know each other more rapidly, finding things in common and learning to relate to one another more quickly.
